Honey and Lemon Water: 7 Amazing Benefits and a Healing Recipe

We all know that there are perfectly delicious combinations, like strawberries and chocolate, peanut butter and jelly or salt and pepper. But there is also a divine duo of Honey and Lemon! It is not just delicious, but also amazing for our body and soul. Both honey and lemon are fortified with natural healing benefits and we will cover them here.

From the very old days, lemon and honey has been used as natural healing remedy in most cultures. Of course some cultures didn’t have the magical citrus fruit growing on trees, but honey was available even some 40 million years ago when the first honey bees appeared on the planet Earth. Thus Baltic people used quince fruit instead of lemon.

Moreover, imagine, there were no pharmacies or doctors round the corner a thousand years ago, but they had the Elders who prescribed one or the other healing remedy through a spiritual ceremony. There are plenty of songs and stories about the super powers of raw honey in the old Lithuanian / Baltic culture.

What is honey? Or actually, what is raw honey?

How to decrystallize raw honey

Some of you might not be very familiar with the term “Raw Honey”. Let’s meet and greet raw honey first.

Raw honey is honey that has not been processed or pasteurised in any way. It is cold extracted straight from the hive. Most importantly it is free from antibiotics and has not been infused with any additional flavourings or sweeteners.

Commercially available honey is usually heavily processed, pasteurised and heated to make it more appealing for the customer. Commercially bought honey may also be blended with other low quality honey or mixed with refined sugars. These processes destroy all the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes that the honey contains. Pasteurisation also reduces honey’s nutritional value, benefits and quality.

Natural honey is obtained through sustainable and ethical beekeeping practices which use natural and ecological remedies for treating bees. This way it is ensured that the honey is real and preserves all of its natural beneficial qualities. Therefore, raw honey is something that our ancestors might have been prescribed by an Elder a thousand years ago.

        1. Hi Hany, we reckon raw honey should not be spoiled in 3 weeks. Honey and Lemon works as a preservative, so there should not be much trouble for 3 weeks.

  1. Hi, I have a specific query on the matter:

The first thing I do after waking up in the morning is to drink some water and clear my bowels. After reading this topic, I have started taking the honey lemon drink in the morning. So, should I take the drink before clearing my bowels or after clearing my bowels??
Right now I am taking the drink straight away after waking up in the morning and before going to the bathroom.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    1. Hi, thank you for your query. We would recommend to consult with your local GP, doctor or dietician. Also always see what works best for yourself, we are all unique and different, there is no right or wrong regarding this. Enjoy and stay healthy!

  2. Hi, here’s my morning ritual, I boil a lemon, mash it to get the fruit out when it’s soft. Then I take out the rind, and carefully pour the lemon and boiling water into an oversized mug, making sure not to let any of the seeds in but getting all of the fruit. Finally, I add two teaspoons of raw, organic honey. I take this about 30 minutes before breakfast and if I’ve had a heavy meal during the day, I make another before bed. It’s great to clean you out and your skin will shine. I’ve been doing this for a while and got my mother and her friend doing it too!
I love it and glad I came across this site to share this.
